Trucking and "Underride" Accidents

18 wheelers and other large commercial vehicles present motorists with a special hazard. The size, weight and design of 18 wheelers make them the cause of many deadly and catastrophic injuries on our Texas highways. Unsafe driving, over-worked drivers, oversized loads and various other irresponsible practices put the motoring public in danger. There are numerous state and federal laws governing 18 wheelers and truck drivers. Accidents with semi-trucks can often involve a combination of the laws regarding motor vehicle accidents and product liability.

One particular area of our practice includes the "underride" practice. Semi-truck trailers are higher than the average motor vehicle. When a motor vehicle impacts the rear of the trailer, the motor vehicles slides under the trailer and can cause very serious injuries and death from decapitation. Rear-end impacts are common and often not the fault of the driver of the motor vehicle. There is a very simple modification that semi-truck manufacturers and owners can make, but few have taken the steps necessary to correct the hazard and prevent a simple rear-end collision from turning into a deadly one.

If you or a family member has been injured in an accident involving an 18 wheeler, you should immediately contact an attorney familiar with the laws governing the operation of commerical vehicles. Additionally, evidence from the accident site may need to be documented and this is not always done by the law enforcement officers who investigate the accident. The Law Office Of James M. Stanley can take the necessary legal steps to have the accident investigated and documented for the future.
