What Are the Minimum Liability Limits?
The state of Texas requires that all drivers carry liability insurance for three different types of damage. This will allow all drivers to be financially protected to a degree should an accident happen and they are at fault for any portion of it.
Minimum liability laws in Texas require that all drivers are insured up to:
- $30,000 for each injured person per incident
- $60,000 total for all injuries when multiple parties are injured
- $25,000 for property damage per incident
When you consider the scope of a normal auto accident, this minimum insurance does not really cover all that much. $30,000 is certainly enough to cover minor injuries, but in the case of serious, catastrophic injuries, it may not be suitable to provide extensive, long-term treatment, lost wages, and the other burdens of a life-changing accident.
While it is always a good idea to carry uninsured/underinsured motorist insurance on your own policy, it is still strongly recommended you retain the services of an attorney when you have been involved in an accident. Proven counsel from a Fort Worth car accident attorney can not only help ensure that you receive the maximum amount possible from an insurance provider but can also take decisive action against the negligent driver, as well.
